LifeFib are electrospun fibrillar sheets of varying size and thickness. The sheets are composed of Medcura’s hydrophobically modified chitosan, for use as absorbable surgical hemostatic gauze. Consistent with all LifeTM Surgical Portfolio formulations, the gauze also includes the benefit of inherent antimicrobial properties of chitosan.

LifeSheet will be used in cardiac, general, gynecological and urological surgical procedures. LifeFib is under active development, and has yet to be evaluated by the FDA.

Work?

By providing a matrix for platelet adhesion and aggregation on contact with blood, Medcura’s hydrophobically modified chitosan fibers allow for mucoadhesion to wet tissue, that creates a barrier to stop bleeding. LifeFib products are engineered to be used in open or laparoscopic surgical procedures.*,**
